CVSS – Sailing for People with Disabilities
We particularly need help on Tuesdays and Saturdays
CVSS is a local charity, staffed entirely by volunteers. We provide sailing and katakanuing for local people aged 2-85 years who have a variety of disabilities.
We work Monday Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday at Bury Lake, the Aquadrome Rickmansworth, 9.30-3.30. Have you got some time to offer? We particularly need help on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
You don't need to have worked with disabled people before.
You don't need to be able to sail – or to want to – we have vacancies for lakeside "meeters and greeters" as well as for those wanting to develop sailing and katakanuing skills. If you do have sailing skills you will, of course, be very welcome.
You just have to want to help.

Thank you to everyone in 2014
A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE AT CVSS
We've come to the end of another exciting season at CVSS; the boats have been "laid up" and won't be back in the water until April 2015.
It's the time of year to thank all CVSS members for their involvement and support.
- To the sailors, their families, assistants and teachers thank you for your enthusiasm and support
- To the volunteers thank you for your many hours of committed work on and offshore
We've been doing a few sums to pass the idle hours and discovered that to run our sailing in 2014 we needed more than 5300 hours of volunteer time. That number doesn't include running our essential "Back Office" jobs – membership, the website, Dutyman, fundraising, attending events etc. so a big thank you to all our volunteers.
Here's to another successful season in 2015 – already the bookings are rolling in.

ALL SHIPSHAPE AND BRISTOL FASHION ...THE BOATS ARE READY FOR 2014 SEASON
On Tuesday 2nd April the "launch squad" got the boats out of winter storage and onto the lake. Our twelve access dinghies and 2 katakanus are now rigged and ready for service. The two new double access boats look very smart..."Smartie" is featured in one of the photos- it's very bright with a patterned deck and bright red sails. The other new double is a little more sophisticated ...but it does have a sparkly deck!
It was a busy day because as the CVSS team was launching boats our new pontoon, which replaces the old "H" pontoon, was being installed. The team did a brilliant job and got the whole thing finished in one day.
So..the boats are ready!
Next we have Volunteer Training Day (8th April) , Parents, Teachers and Assistants Training (24th April) and the season begins Monday 28th April.
We look forward to meeting everyone down at the lake.
We need more volunteers
WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS - TO HELP ON AND OFF THE WATER!
CVSS is likely to be busier in 2015. And to run daily sessions safely with all sailing sessions booked we need at least 15 volunteers each day!
Our season runs from Monday 27th April to 21st October 2015
- If you can volunteer, or know someone who might be interested please contact us or complete the online volunteer application form.
- If you know of a venue where we can advertise for volunteers tell us or download a poster for display from our website.
- If you can suggest ways we can attract more volunteers we'd really like to know!
