Volunteer Training Day 21st April

This is the opportunity for CVSS volunteers to refresh their skills prior to the season, or, if they are new to us, to become familiar with our boats and equipment and meet the team before the season starts.

We can only run one day of this type each season - but if you want to volunteer for 2015 don't worry we can provide training during sailing days for you.

Parents, Assistants and Teachers Training Day 22nd April

This is our free full day for those who will buddy, katakanu and otherwise support sailors on site. It's a chance to ask questions and try out activities without the responsibilities of enabling disabled sailors.

As usual the day was very well supported with 55 willing supporters on site. Everyone had a great day and developed new skills or practiced the ones they hadn't used since October 2014.

We can only offer one day of this type each year.

If you are a parent, assistant or teacher who is supporting a sailor in the 2015 season and want some training support, please tell the CVSS leader of the day, the Shore Officer or contact us and we will do what we can..... but sailing sessions are now very busy and we're not making promises!!

Images from the day and previous sessions can be viewed in our Photo Gallery

At Lunch 300The launch squad worked hard on 15th April to get the boats and katakanus off the shore and ready for action for the training days and the first day of the sailing season on Monday 27th April.

It was the hottest day of the year - at BLYM the temperature reached 26ºC - but the team remained cool as cucumbers and got the job done! As you can see is wasn't ALL work.

A big thank you to those volunteers who came along and sorted things out.

WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS - TO HELP ON AND OFF THE WATER!

CVSS is likely to be busier in 2015. And to run daily sessions safely with all sailing sessions booked we need at least 15 volunteers each day!

Our season runs from Monday 27th April to 21st October 2015

  • If you can volunteer, or know someone who might be interested please contact us or complete the online volunteer application form.
  • If you know of a venue where we can advertise for volunteers tell us or download a poster for display from our website.
  • If you can suggest ways we can attract more volunteers we'd really like to know!

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE AT CVSS

We've come to the end of another exciting season at CVSS; the boats have been "laid up" and won't be back in the water until April 2015.

It's the time of year to thank all CVSS members for their involvement and support.

So...

  • To the sailors, their families, assistants and teachers thank you for your enthusiasm and support
  • To the volunteers thank you for your many hours of committed work on and offshore

We've been doing a few sums to pass the idle hours and discovered that to run our sailing in 2014 we needed more than 5300 hours of volunteer time. That number doesn't include running our essential "Back Office" jobs – membership, the website, Dutyman, fundraising, attending events etc. so a big thank you to all our volunteers.

Here's to another successful season in 2015 – already the bookings are rolling in.
